StatementMy inspiration behind The Dovetail Chair draws from the intersection of nature and modernity, fusing organic matter with contemporary design and sophistication. I strived to highlight the juxtaposition between the minimalist aesthetic and intricate construction.
My focus was on embracing the elegance and structural strength of dovetail joinery in crafting this chair. There are a total of 24 hand-cut dovetails in this chair. No screws, nails, or other metal fasteners are used.
Deliberately choosing walnut and highly figured maple, I aimed to introduce vivid color contrasts for added depth and interest within the chair. The chair was sanded to 220-grit and finished with an eco-friendly product (Osmo PolyX Oil) to enhance both aesthetics and sustainability.
